We should be celebrating instead of mourning.
We should celebrate the long life of a great man who selflessly dedicated such a large part of his life building our country from a place nobody recognised on the map to a first world country.
It is no mean feat but he did it.
Against all odds. Against all obstacles.
We should celebrate all the times we feel safe in our own country,
even walking alone on the dark streets late at night.
All the times you told your parents,
"Don't worry la I'm coming back soon, Singapore how safe???"
Each time I travel overseas (especially for work trips),
I find myself being very proud to call myself a Singaporean because of all that it stands for.
The stark contrast of the living standards in most other countries makes me appreciative of everything Singapore is.
We should celebrate that we never have to worry about unsanitary living conditions and dirty drinking water.
Small things which we never give thoughts to on a daily basis.
So blessed we are,
as Singaporeans, to be living in an era whereby we do not have to worry about having our basic needs unmet.
There are definitely things which we are still unsatisfied with.
Things which can be improved.
But undeniably,
we are absolutely blessed to be here.
All thanks to Mr Lee Kuan Yew,
our founding father.
Thank you for giving us your life, Singapore,
and for reminding us yet again how lucky we are to be born and raised here.

You may be gone but you have bridged the gap between life and death - for your legacy will live on in the hearts of many.
