Sleep.

Sleep is something that does not come very easily for me.
Those people who can fall easily on buses, on trains, on planes or basically anywhere?
I'M SUPER ENVIOUS OF THEM.
:(
I can lie on bed for hours and hours but not being able to fall asleep.

I think it has got something to do with the fact that I deal with quite a lot of stress on a daily basis,
and also perhaps due to the fact that I tend to think a lot before I sleep.

The lack of (restful) sleep really gets to me because after an entire night of sleep (not sure I can even call that sleep),
I will wake up feeling not refreshed and energized at all!
Okay, if you're someone who can fall asleep anywhere,
you will not understand how I feel.

It's honestly quite torturing because I waste time "sleeping",
but end up being easily irritable or lethargic the next day because I still feel that I didn't get the rest I needed.
Especially if I know I need to wake up early the next day,
I feel super stressed because I will try damn hard to fall asleep.
But it usually makes me sleep even lesser hours because I JUST CAN'T FALL ASLEEP.

I'm a chronic insomniac and I know that it is super bad for health,
which is why I NEED to start improving on my sleeping habits.

Because apparently, long term sleep deprivation results in:
high blood pressure, heart attack, heart failure, stroke, obesity, depression, ADD, mental impairment, injury from accidents, poor quality of life...

The list never seems to end.
Sounds quite scary what lack of sleep can do to you!

Did some research online and found the following tips to sound promising in improving sleeping habits!
Am going to try them out and keep up with them if they are helpful.

1) Avoid caffeine and all other chemicals that interfere with sleep.
AM A FAN OF MILK TEA SO URMMMMM.
Quite hard for me to do this!!

2) Turn your bedroom into a sleep inducing environment. If you have pets that wake you up frequently in the middle of the night, keep them out of your bedroom.
My bedroom is full of disturbances and there is no way to reduce them since I sleep with both my sisters and Xiaobai.
And they make all sorts of noise when they sleep so.......
I'm also the lightest sleeper amongst them so it's always me who wakes up to let Xiaobai down the bed to pee.
>:(

Looks like I'm fated to die early, LOL.

3) Go to sleep when you're truly tired instead of having to struggle to fall asleep.
Ok, sounds good!
Will try this!

4) Don't be a clock watcher because it makes it harder to fall asleep.
HAHAHA so true.
Every time I look at the time I'll mentally count the number of hours I have left to sleep and be like 'Omg so stress I need to fall asleep like RIGHT NOW NOW NOW.'

5) Keep your internal clock set with a regular sleep pattern.

6) Nap early or not at all.
Not applicable to me at all.

7) Lighten up on evening meals and eat early.

8) Balance fluid intake so that you don't get thirsty/have the urge to pee in the middle of the night.
Gonna take some skill but worth a try!

9) Exercise early.
Always thought that exercising will make it easier for me to fall asleep but turns out,
it will make me more alert if I exercise near bedtime!

Hope this helps fellow insomniacs like me!
And sorry if it bores you if you're the type who falls asleep easily.
Then you might have already fallen asleep halfway into my blogpost.
LOL.

Hoping that I'll get better sleep tonight!

GUESS WHO'S GOING FOR TIM HO WAN TOMORROW!!!
