Thought it was time to get my Penang trip post out of the way,
so bear with this picture heavy (and food-filled) post!
Consider this a warning if you're reading my blog late at night.
Heh.
It's been almost 2 months since the trip (I know right, I'm a terrible blogger) and I miss the food there so much!
Every day was just #goodfood #goodfood and more #goodfood.
The exchange rates for ringgit is also super good now so everything was really cheap!

Spices Residence @ Lumut Lane, Georgetown
This was our stay for the whole 3 days we were in Georgetown Penang!
The room was a little small but everything was clean, nice and cosy.
The host was also extremely helpful and friendly which made the stay super pleasant.
:)
Made my booking through booking.com if I remember correctly!
Although I just did a quick google check and they don't seem to be available for reservations right now.

We did not do much planning ahead for this trip,
and most of the time we just followed the recommendations of this orange brochure which we took from the place we stayed at.
Surprisingly,
this brochure features a lot of great local food hunts!
:)

BEST WANTON MEE EVER.
Wanted to go back for a second time before we leave but sadly the place was closed.
:(
MUST EAT!!!
Kedai Kopi Seng Thor
160 Lebuh Carnavon
7am - 11.30am

We dressed really light for our trip because the weather was super freaking unbearably hot.
Way worse than whatever heat wave we're facing right now in Singapore.
We were planning to cycle around but dismissed the idea because there's zero shade on the roads.
None at all.
I would rather die than be under the hot sun for more than 5 minutes.
So as you can guess,
sunblock and umbrella goes everywhere I go.
Hahaha.

Do not be deceived by the pretty blue skies.
It was so blindingly hot everywhere we went,
for all 3 days!
;(
Georgetown is a really small place and you can basically get to most places by walking.
And google mapping.
Sometimes even if you need a cab,
there's none.
And most streets are pretty empty after 6pm.
Be sure to start your day early if you want to get to all the good food!

Chanced upon a cafe along the way as we explored the area.
Actually at that point of time,
I just wanted to go ANYWHERE with aircon.
Hahaha.
Sugar Honey
No. 26,
Lebuh Campbell,
10100 Georgetown, Penang

The food was pretty average.
Their staff recommended the waffles but it was mediocre in my opinion.
If you head there,
you could ask them for some other recommendations!

The legendary famous chendol!
To be honest I've never tried chendol before.
But this is really very good!
It was surprisingly light in taste but distinctive in flavour.
The whole 'eat with your bowl while standing along the roadside' experience makes it really authentic!
;)
If you don't want to stand and eat at the same time,
you can pay 50 cents more and eat inside the cafe.
Joo Hooi Cafe
475 Jalan Penang
12pm-5.30pm

We also found super good Penang laksa and char kway teow at Joo Hooi Cafe!
Needless to say,
we ate till our bellies could take no more.
LOL.

Random streets which we had our dinner at.
The only dish we had that night which was worth mentioning is the orh lua!
I'm a super big orh lua fan by the way.
Hehehe.
Yi Garden
No. 150,
Jalan Macalister
12pm-11pm

The plain looking but super delicious soup kway teow!
The best soup kway teow I've had.
Thumbs up!
I heard that the char kway teow here is really good as well.
Kafe Ping Hooi
179 Lebuh Carnavon

Olsen Floral Maxi in Cream from TTR, bag from C&K

Random street art.
We didn't actually go around looking for the famous wall graffiti which everyone seems to feature when they visit Georgetown.
Hahah.
To me they are only drawings on the wall?
And it's just way too hot to even stand under the sun to take photos of/with the graffiti.

Tea break at China House,
one of the well known and must go cafes in Georgetown!
I thought the Tiramisu cake was pretty decent!
We also ordered a pie which was average only.
It can be pretty pricey to dine at China House.
Prices are equivalent to what you would pay at Singapore cafes.
China House
153 Lebuh Pantai

My door to Narnia.
HAHAHA.
Definitely my favourite graffiti of the trip!

Paid the Peranakan Museum a visit.

Food again.
Highly recommend this curry mee!
They are usually sold out by the end of their day and we were extremely, extremely lucky to get the last bowl!
Tua Pui Curry Mee
No. 23 Lebuh Kimberly
I know,
the name tickles me too.
Hahaha.
I'll definitely be a tua pui (big fatty) if I stay in Penang.

Dinner at Behind 50!
So happy with whatever we ordered.
Yummy and value for money!
I recommend the aglio olio a lot!
Love the vintage decor of the cafe too.
;)
Behind 50
50 Lorong Love
Mon to Wed 6pm – 1am;
Fri to Sun 6pm – 1am

Supper at Cafe 55 after dinner.
I TOLD YOU.
We kept eating.
Tried the white wine clams (SUPER AWESOME) and the 3D coffee art.
The coffee art was definitely less impressive than the one I've had at Chock Full of Beans though!
Cafe 55
47-55 Lorong Stewart
Okay,
I got to admit...
After having so much good food on Day 1 and 2,
I suffered mild indigestion on my last day there.
Super bummer cos I was looking forward to eating more food before I leave!
:(

I tried the bagels and yoghurt at Mugshot Cafe thanks to someone's recommendation on my IG!
:)
Definitely did not disappoint!
They also had a cute corner for customers to take their mugshots.
10 points for creativity!
Mugshot Cafe
302 Chulia Street

Visited a cat cafe when we were trying to kill time before our flight back.
Spent a couple of hours there and I realise I'm just not a cat person.
Cats love playing hard to get!
I enjoyed the company of cute affectionate dogs more.
Don't get me wrong,
cats are cute too!
But I prefer it when I feel loved.
HAHAHA.

Had our fill of local fare before we headed back for Singapore!
At the risk of sounding like a glutton,
I definitely would want to return to Georgetown or perhaps explore other parts of Penang just for the food!
We didn't actually do much sightseeing during the trip because I was not extremely keen in the street art/temples/peranakan museums which most people seems to be interested in when they visit Georgetown.
Food was definitely more attractive to me!
Hehe.
Hope you enjoyed the post!
I definitely enjoyed reliving my trip again through doing up this entry.
Till my next vacation!
:)
