Bangkok Travelogue II

Thought I'll finish up this post mighty fast because I foresee a really busybee weekend ahead!
And usually, leaving things the way they are just makes me not wanna get back to them after they sit for too long.
And I have a few other posts which I wanna do after my travelogue!
So...

Part 2 of the awesome BKK trip coming right up!
:D :D

Day 3 started out with...
Me being vain while Thom decides how much money we were gonna bring out for the day.
Love the floral maxi which I got from Khaosan for only SGD10!!
I usually don't bring that many outfits when I go to BKK.
Because there're so many clothes to buy there!!
Save luggage space also.
Heh.

Started our day at Platinum Mall!
I think they open quite early, like 10am.

Saw this damn enthu maltese in one of the shops and it just dashed up to us and started wagging her tail + licking us wherever she could.
Hahahaha.

Sometimes I wonder if Xiaobai is really a dog.
Or human in disguise.
She's so chill and relaxed like 95% of the time.
5% of the time is only when we tell her 'Xiaobai let's go gai gai!' or when someone rings the doorbell.

Avengers mannequins!

Anyway, I think Platinum Mall is quite a good place to shop for guys clothes!
Thom always stocks up on his wardrobe whenever we go to BKK.
Cheap and good quality!
There's this shop called Kruff and they have some pretty awesome shirts for 300 baht per piece!
250 baht if you buy 2 pieces or more.
LIKE HOW CHEAP??
SGD 10 only!

Okay I sound like I'm advertising for them...
But it's boyfriends' heaven.
HAHA.
Not kidding.

I don't know their exact unit number but they have 2 outlets in Platinum Mall, one on level 2 and another on level 4.

We didn't even take the tuktuk once this trip.
I think we had enough of being quote super high prices for super near locations.
Hahaha.
But if it's your first time to BKK, you can try taking it for the experience!

Usually, even after you haggle they charge you what it would cost you if you were to take a cab to the same location.
So...
I don't see the point of paying the same price and having no aircon for the journey.

If they quote you low prices (say 50 baht or so), please be wary okay?
On my first trip to BKK, this tuktuk driver quoted us a very low price but spent a good whole hour bringing us to souvenir shops and "jewellery" shops before sending us to where we wanted to go.
;(

Our purdyyyyyy watches from dearest Yoko!!
And also our first couple watch set!
Thom loves his so much he wore it everyday since I passed it to him.

Get them from www.nakedglory.com!

Maybe I'll do a post showing all my Naked Glory watches soon!
HAHAH.
It's like a mini collection already lor.

We walked to Siam Center for a late lunch!
We usually walk if the place we're heading to is just in the area.
Save money to spend on better things!

I did my research before the trip and decided on the Greyhound Cafe for lunch!
Hahaha.
I am actually damn proud of myself for planning the entire trip.
Kept asking Thom 'So how? I plan one very fun right??'
And of course there is only one answer.
HAHAH.

However, my area of research missed out on the most important part.
Recommended dishes.
So we just picked based on the descriptions on the menu!
Hahaha.

Out of all that we ordered, only one was a no go for me.
Which is the French Onion Soup.

The rest were mind numbingly good!
SO SO GOOD.
The mini fried chicken wings are likely to be the best version of fried chicken I've tasted in my life.
Totally not exaggerating!
And I like the fact that they are so mini,
it doesn't make you feel full as compared to if it was one whole huge chicken wing, if I'm making any sense at all.
The soft shell crab salad was also omg-died-and-went-to-heaven kind of awesome.
Pasta was alright, a little too salty for our liking.

We also ordered their Happy Toast which never came.
Which was alright for us, because we wanted to go someplace else for desserts!

Oh, and Thom's thai iced tea came with ice cubes made of tea.
Which is awesome because it keeps the drink cold but at the same time not diluting it.

Omg hahaha I think I can dedicate a whole post to this cafe.
Love it so much I'm gonna go back there soon to try out some other dishes.
Their selection of menu is really impressive too!
We stared at it for a good whole 10 minutes before deciding on our orders.

Bill only came to less than $40 for both of us!

Walked around Siam Center for a bit to digest all that goodness in our tummies.
There are a lot of Thai designer brands in Siam Center,
and I super love their window displays and the outlook of their stores!

Had desserts at Vanilla Brasserie after quite a bit of walking.
:)
Had the Apple Cherry Crumble pie, White Chocolate Strawberry Dome and Banana Chocolate Crepe.
Felt cheated by the crepe because I didn't know chocolate = chocolate ice cream.
Meh.

Coffee was good!
In fact, I've never tasted bad coffee in BKK so far.

Vanilla Brasserie serves proper meals too,
but we were still full from all that food we had earlier.

(just right next to Siam Center!)

And I think I'm gonna have to split my travelogue into 3 parts instead of just 2.
Because I didn't realise how action packed our day 3 was.
HAHAH.

Night activity on day 3 was a trip to the railway night market,
also known to the locals as Rod Fai night market!
It's a night market where there are lots of vintage finds for you to dig into,
as well as the more trendy stuff!

It's not the usual night market whereby you see swarms of tourists...
I was quite surprised to see that majority of the people there are locals.
Which means that the things they sell there are CHEAPPPP.

How to get there:

We took the BTS to Mo Chit station, then exit from the station and crossed the road to take the MRT to  Khampaeng Phet station.
Exit the station from exit 1,
and walk towards the right for about 10-15 minutes.

When in doubt, just follow the crowd!
There were many people heading the same way as us so we knew we were heading the right direction.

Above is the photo of the furniture shop you'll see when you exit from the station,
and below that is the small entrance which brings you to Rod Fai night market!

I think I took more photos at Rod Fai night market than anywhere else in BKK.
Love vintage stuff and we spent close to 3 hours just walking about being amazed by most of the things we saw there.
The things there aren't ridiculously expensive unlike most vintage stuff you see selling in Singapore.
I got myself a vintage camera bag for 500 baht after bargaining it down from 800 baht.
And I think I could have gotten away with 400 baht, haha.
So be sure to bargain when you're there, okay?

The cafes there are also pretty cool,
all decorated nicely in vintage furniture!
Extremely photoshoot worthy, hahaha.

Ended our time at Rod Fai with some squid with egg, and green milk tea.
DAMN YUMS.
Or maybe we were just hungry.

Oh, and I took a photo of the bulldog just because it looks too grumpy to be wearing a frilly dress.
Hehe.

If you're heading to Rod Fai, dress light (which means no maxi dresses HAHA) and bring a hair tie with you if you have long hair like me.
I was roasting there!!!
Luckily we found a stall selling hair accessories and bought a rubber band which totally saved my life.

We were like zombies after ending day 3 because of all the travelling!
So if you like your trip slow and easy,
be sure to space out your itinerary a bit.

Rod Fai Night Market
(only open on weekends)
10-15 minutes walk from Khampaeng Phet Mrt Station

And so, it's time for bed and part 3 will be up soon!
Nighty!
