Was so mega excited for this trip and I didn't really sleep the night before!!!
We have been planning a holiday trip for TTR for the longest time ever,
we even have this FB group called 'TTR's Big Holiday!'
Hahahaha.
And finally this trip materialized!
Okay you've to first watch this video edited by Dings!
LOL.
LOL.
SO CUTE RIGHT!!!

Our lil babygirl looking all upset because she knew that we were going to be away.
;(

I got a few questions about this BKK trip on my Formspring,
so I'll just try to include some relevant information in this blog post!
If you've been to BKK numerous times like I have,
you can skip the words.
Hahaha.
We took Scoot because there was a promotion going on when we were booking the flights.
The average price for flights to BKK for majority of the budget flights should be around $100-$300+ for a round trip,
including taxes and luggage allowance.
Personally I prefer taking Airasia and Scoot because they are situated at T1.
And I can do some DFS shopping before boarding.
There's nothing for me to buy at the pathetic and sad looking budget terminal, hahahaha.

First time going to BKK with Sissy!
We've each been there several times but this is our first trip together.
Hehe.

Trusty luggages to accompany us on our trip!
We usually take a cab from the Suvarnabhumi Airport to our hotel (usually we pick those near the Platinum Mall),
which will roughly cost around 350 to 400 baht if I remember correctly.
But this time, we took the train!
Only 40 baht per person!
And it only took about 20 minutes.
I still think that it is easier to take the cab though,
unless you've been to BKK many times and you know your way around quite well.

We stayed at the Citin Pratunam hotel,
which came with basic amenities and facilities such as Wifi and hairdryer which is really essential for me.
We booked it at $40 per room per night through booking.com,
but when my friend checked the rates became $300+ per night for the same room.
So I guess it's a matter of luck sometimes!
Wouldn't particularly recommend that you stay at this hotel because there is quite a distance from the hotel to where the main road is.
And you need to take a tuktuk to and fro which can be really bothersome,
especially since the tuktuk drivers are so good at exploiting tourists.
There are a number of better hotels (Glow, Grand Diamond, Amari Watergate) you can look at if you don't mind paying a bit more,
they are situated on the main road and so much more convenient!
I've stayed at Grand Diamond and it was super awesome please.

Hit the streets after we checked in to look for dinner!

Dinner was at this BBQ restaurant called Joom Zap Hut @ Central World!
Recommended by a friend who happened to be in BKK the same time as us,
so he brought us there!

Thanks to Aloysius's recommendation,
it was one of the best meals we've had in BKK!
:)

For all that we ordered (which, believe me is quite a lot) considering how much the 3 guys can eat,
the bill only came up to 1000 baht!
Which is...
$40 SGD for 5 people.
SO CHEAPPPPPPPP.
The food was really good too!
Happy 3 friends with happy tummies.
The food was so good that Ben kept wanting to go back again before we come back to Singapore.
LOL.

Patpong Night Market after dinner!
We met up with Dings and Theodore because they were already in BKK the day before.
Didn't manage to meet Mel and her girls on our first day.

There's really nothing much at this night market...
Patpong is a well known red light district in BKK,
so the street stalls were surrounded with pubs and bars on both sides.
And there will be annoying people pestering you to go watch 'ping pong show',
which is basically their Thai girls show.
And we actually went but it was the biggest mistake of our lives.
Left before the show ended.
HAHAHAH.
Grossed out max.

Woke up bright and early the next day because we were heading to the Chatuchak market!!!
It's like this SUPER HUGE weekend day market that you HAVE to visit.
They sell all sorts of things there, from clothes, to food, to handmade souvenirs, to cute and furry little critters, and vintage furniture!
And maybe more.

Waiting at the lobby for everyone to gather!

The hotel tuktuk is free of charge,
but it only operates every 30 minutes.
Still, it is way better than the streetside tuktuks.
It gets really annoying when they keep trying to scam us by quoting ridiculously high prices for a short journey.
Cabbies are slightly better,
and I much prefer travelling around without having the inhale the very polluted exhaust fumes on the road.
Try to haggle the prices they quote you if they refuse to go by meter.
Pretending to walk away helps too.
Hahaha.

Breakfast was at Platinum Mall!
We always have our breakfast there before setting out to wherever we want to go for the day.
I TRY NOT TO EAT STREET FOOD IF I CAN HELP IT.
I think I have a weak digestive system.
Unlike Dings and Mel who happily ate from the street stalls and are still fine at the end of the trip.
Every time without fail, I come back from BKK with food poisoning/stomach flu.
Except for this time!
HEHE.
So happy that I came back healthy.

Favourite food from Platinum Mall:
Claypot beef ball noodles,
oyster omelette,
crab claw wanton mee!
Always order these without fail.
:)

Group photo at the BTS!
I was the photographer.
:(
We took the train to Chatuchak instead of cabbing like we usually do,
because we were in such a big group and you will never know which part of Chatuchak the cab will drop you at.
Yes, it is that huge.
Anyway, the train was super convenient!
Sorry that I didn't manage to take down the station names though,
too hard to remember!
So if you wanna take the train around,
remember to do your homework!
;)

Favourite street snack:
coconut marshmallow crepes!
:D
SO YUMMY.
Try it if you come across it in BKK,
provided that you like sweet stuff!
There are many sections in Chatuchak,
but there is a section selling pretty nice clothes and accessories!
It's hard for me to tell you how to get there...
Most of the time Thom is the one bringing me around.
He has an amazing sense of direction,
like my personal GPS.
Hahahah.

SUPER GROSSED OUT BY THIS ANTS INFESTED SHIRT.
Omg.
Who would wanna look like they have ants crawling all over them!
I feel itchy all over just by staring at it.
Ewwwww.

You'll hardly see me without my umbrella in BKK.
The sun is so merciless please.
And sunblock is a must!

Coconut ice cream which tastes like heaven,
because you'll end up a sticky warm mess after walking around the market for a few hours!
We got separated eventually in the market,
and texted each other to meet back at the hotel for dinner!
It was also very helpful that we bought SIM cards at the airport,
so it was easy to contact each other even when we got lost!
:)

The TTR models!
And Fel and Toh who are very camera shy, hehe.
Dinner was at Chinatown,
because we wanted to get the local snacks to bring back.

Disappointing meal so I shall not recommend the place!
We usually go to the shop called 林真香 to get the snacks!
They have quite a few outlets along Chinatown so it should be easy to find.
They provide delivery to the hotel if you purchase 1000 baht and above,
which isn't very difficult.
Hahaha.
And after all that snacks shopping,
we went in search of the super nice (according to Mel) dessert place called Spring Summer.
It was so difficult to find even though we had the exact address,
it took us 2 cab rides and lots of google maps navigating before we got there!
In case you're interested, it's at 199 Sukhumvit Soi 39.
You've been warned though.
LOL.

Happy people because we managed to get to our destination!

Me and Fel got cakes because our birthdays are in August!
:)))
So sweet of them!
My birthday happens to fall on the last day of this trip,
and it was a simple but happy affair to be spending my birthday with this bunch of people.
;)

Top upcoming on TTR!
:)
Love basics like this!
Kept all 5 colours, hahaha.
Spent our second last day roaming around Platinum Mall.
There was nothing much to take photos of!

The busy street we had to pass by every day to get to the main road.
Be careful when you're walking around crowded places like this,
Mel got pickpocketed at this market the very first day she arrived!
:(
Keep your bags close to you and don't bring all your money out on your first few days!
And it would also be good if you activate your ATM cards for overseas transactions.
I didn't bring enough money out on one of the days and happily thought that I could draw money like I used to.
But I didn't know that our cards are now blocked from making withdrawals from overseas.
Just go activate your cards at the ATM machines,
it's really simple and saves you a whole lot of angst when you realise you've run out of cash overseas.

Mel with a rooster on her head.
Thailand people have funny hair accessories.
They have those with fruits too,
hahaha.
We visited Khaosan night market the very same night,
but I left my camera in the hotel room so I didn't get any pictures!
It was a much more interesting place to be at night compared to Patpong.
But shopping wise, not much!
Mel and her girls left that evening so it was just the rest of us!
The boys bought fried crickets and silk cocoons to try....
Pictures below credits to Dings!

They have fried frogs and fried scorpions and fried I-don't-know-what too.
GOOSEBUMPS!!!

Outfit for our last day in BKK!

A&W at Panthip Plaza, just further down the same road as Platinum Mall is on!
Love root beer and curly fries!

Visited Erawan Shrine which is just diagonally opposite of Central World.
:)
And then we went back to Platinum Mall to shop till we had to return to the hotel and cab to the airport.
BYE BYE BANGKOK!
You've been awesome!
We'll be back!
♥
